Family and Missions

From Strand, we took off to Melkbos and Tableview just outside of Capetown. Our first night, we helped Daniel Domancie who founded “Kingdom Longboards” with a 3km community skate down the waterfront in Capetown. Andy and I stayed with an amazing family in Tableview. We did have a few outreach opportunities, but we needed to go to Durban after the first week to visit Grannie in the hospital.

The Hatfields

We prayed and prayed for the opportunity to share Jesus’ love with Grannie. Uncle Mike from Australia picked us up at the airport in Ballito and we were able to see Grannie the next day. Our first visit, we felt God lead us to pray with her. With faith, I kept believing that He was going to touch her heart in some way. As Andy grabbed her hand to pray, I felt His presence and peace so strongly. We just prayed that she would know and experience His peace and love. I opened my eyes, and hers were closed and she wouldn’t let go of Andy’s hand. She finally opened her eyes and told us that someone told her that Jesus has her in the palm of His hand. She couldn’t remember if it was someone in the hospital or if it was a dream! I am going to continue praying for her and would love the support from you readers that God can continue His work in her heart. She is 91 years old! Once Lauren, Maya and Martin arrived, we had the opportunity to wash Gran’s hair and beautify her while she was in the hospital. It was amazing seeing Grannie and Maya Sadie meet each other for the first time.

Gran meeting Maya for the first time

After a good family visit, we had the blessing from the CSALT leadership team to stay with the family in Durban, but felt that we needed to head back to Capetown to be with the rest of the team. Once we got back to Capetown, we prepared to head to Kommetjie and Muzienberg for the South African Longboarding Championships! We had such a great opportunity to serve at a big contest and be the face of Christian Surfers.

Colossians 4:5-6 Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.

It was interesting going from several “Christian” outreaches to a worldly outreach. Our job was running food to the judges of the contest, totalizing scores, and setting up the contest every day. We were there to serve in any way we could. Throughout the week of the contest, it was amazing to see the transformation in the judges attitudes. The first 2 days, they took off right after we were done the heats for the day while we stayed and took down the tents, flags and sound systems. By the end of the week, they were sticking around helping take down and thanking us for serving them. Colossians 4 says it so perfectly. We need to have grace on unbelievers. They do not know the truth of Christ’s love, so we are there to show Him in our actions and words. All of us at some point were able to share what Christian Surfers is all about, and this was a new contact for the interns in South Africa. Such a great opportunity to network and serve at the SA Longboard champs. I have never seen such insane surfing in my life.

Back to lectures and debrief with Snoek in JBAY. We are preparing for practical phase in June. We are seeing where our heart is after seeing all the aspects of Christian Surfers on our missions phase.
