So I’m the coffee girl again with Brooooke…. Putting on the 5th Liberty Longboard Classic in Strand for the weekend. The group was delegated specific roles that come so naturally to us. Mine is hospitality. For those of you who don’t know, a lot of work goes into a big surf contest like this one. Welcome packs with stickers, vouchers, magazines and newsletters need to be sorted. It doesn’t just magically sort itself. Sponsors have to be acknowledged and the helpers (Aka us) need food for lunches. I give a hand to the leaders of the Sonsurf School Mik and Inge who eagerly get out there and give God all they got using this contest as an outreach to the community of Strand. This is why they call it a missions trip. It’s a mission to set up a scaffolding tower made of sheer iron for the judges. It’s a mission to affirm sponsors. It’s a missions to organize car trips and home stays.
After leaving Elandsbaai, we headed to Strand to support the SonSurf School raise the towers for the contest and some of us participated in some amazing Longboarding heats. It was a different pace from Lambertsbaai, but all part of Christian Surfers and serving the Lord. The Longboard Classic is such an amzing way to serve the community of Strand and surf some awesome beach break waves. I didn’t even realize where I was surfing until I looked at a map. Do you see where we are in Strand… do you see where Seal Island is??? Did you know that this Bay is the sharkiest place on the planet and that Great Whites for some reason decide to jump several feet out of the water hunting Seal around Seal Island ?? I didn’t know that I was that close after surfing 6-7 times a day off of Strand beach. I guess you can’t really think about it as a surfer. We serve a pretty big God…
The whole weekend was a success. Please check out the SonSurf facebook page for more photos and details on the annual event.
We tore down the scaffolding tower and wrapped things up from the surf contest and headed to Melkbos. We are now here serving with Daniel Domancie with Kingdom Longboards (skateboards), putting on local skate events and serving at the churches here. For advertising of the youth event this coming Friday, Andy and I went to the highschool to promo the event. It’s pretty scary pumping tunes and speaking on a microphone in a highschool square, but somehow Andy and Alex got the students pumped using a dance circle.
Andy pumping the event pretending to be a speed skater
Heading to Durban on Friday for a family unexpected circumstance… will keep you posted
God Speeed.
